On Thursday, April 13, the 12-time All-American and five-time SEC championship swimmer, Riley Gaines, spoke at University at Buffalo about her experience competing against a man. Gaines, who has been outspoken about the newest trend of men pretending to be women and competing in female sports, was assaulted during her speech last week at San Francisco State University and had to leave for her own safety. The event in Buffalo drew a much smaller crowd of around 30-40 individuals from various extremist groups, but the protesters were unable to stop Gaines from speaking out.
A petition was circulated the day of the protest by graduate students calling on University at Buffalo president Satish Tripathi, Provost Scott Weber, Dean of Student Life Ann Bisantz, and Dean of Graduate School Graham Hamill to give in to various perverted and ant-White demands. The Buffalo chapter of Worker’s World Party announced they would be present at the protest earlier that day, and brought a large yellow banner to the demonstration. According to The Spectrum, “Rayna Cooke, a co-chair of the UB chapter of the Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA), helped organize the protest of Gaines’ speech.” Several members of Starbucks Workers United were also identified by WMKI as taking part. According to various news reports, one individual was arrested after allegedly shoving a TPUSA videographer.
